Clock out and leave. Hi, my name is Doug Lipsky, and I am an employment lawyer.
Clock out and leave. Your employer cannot require you to work after you have clocked out without paying you.
If your employer asks you to perform work after you clock out, that is illegal.
For example, counting the register, cleaning up the back area, or doing other side work after you have clocked out.
If the employer wants that work done, they must pay you for that time.
So remember this simple rule. Clock out and leave.
