On November 18, 2020, Plaintiff Heba Abdelaal filed a Complaint against The City of New York, Office of the Bronx District Attorney, Darcel D. Clark, Individually and in Her Capacity as an Employee of the Defendant The City of New York, and Bronx County in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, which is assigned case number 1:20-cv-09716.

Claims in the lawsuit:

The lawsuit alleges the following causes of action:

  1. Sexual Harassment under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (“Title VII”), the New York State Human Rights Law (“NYSHRL”) and the New York City Human Rights Law (“NYCHRL”). The Complaint alleges Defendants sexually harassed Plaintiff throughout her employment with them.
  2. Religious Discrimination under Title VII, the NYSHRL and the NYCHRL. The Complaint alleges that Defendants discriminated against Plaintiff on the basis of her religion.
  3. Retaliation under Title VII, the NYSHRL and the NYCHRL. The Complaint alleges that Defendants retaliated against Plaintiff for rejecting their sexual advances and complaining about the harassment she faced.

 

Case Status:

On November 18, 2020, the Complaint was filed.

On March 4, 2021, Defendants filed an Answer to the Complaint.

Discovery is ongoing.
